Challenge for small business in region

8/09/2008 10:18:00 AM
THE North West small business community is being set a challenge to boost funds for the Mount Isa Community Helicopter.

Chief executive Alex Dorr is calling on businesses in the region to sign up for annual sponsorship packages and show their support for this vital service.

“A lot of people are talking about what a great idea the rescue chopper is but now that talk needs to turn into action,” he said.

“We need the support of the business community.”

The service needs to raise $700,000 to upgrade to a well-equipped search and rescue helicopter.

The current chopper is not a dedicated medical aircraft and does not meet requirements to transport paramedics to accident scenes.

“We hope to raise $600,000 from major companies and $100,000 from local businesses,” Mr Dorr said.

“We would love to get more businesses signing up for our $10,000 sponsorship package. It works out about $830 a month which is affordable.

For that package sponsors get their logo on our car and website.”

The community is also encouraged to become members of the helicopter.

The North West Star and the MICH have joined forces for a membership push within the region.

It is free to join this year and members are entitled to discounts at participating businesses.

Membership currently stands at 550 but it is hoped 1000 members can be recruited.

This will provide a solid financial boost for the service next year when memberships can be renewed for $20.

To join, fill out a membership form from Tuesday or Thursday’s The North West Star or go online www.mountisacommunityhelicopter.com.au. Forms can be dropped in any donation box at businesses throughout the city.
