Wanderers plan to dim Starries as Brothers hunt for first points

Both sides had contrastinggames last week with Black Stars coping a pasting from Tow while Wanderers were able to withhold a late charge from Brothers.

Wanderer’s winger Tim O’Sullivan believes his side has enhanced from 2007 through the growth of their youth and creation of player versatility among the existing squad.

“Due to the fact that we have developed our younger players and have the ability to play players in a number of positions on the ground, we have improved our game since last year,” O’Sullivan said.

“We will continue to focus on our defence and work on the development of our patterns of play.”

Wanderer’s captain Ben Baillie will be absent from the line-up this week, with the half back sustaining a shoulder injury last weekend that will see him sidelined for up to six week.

While the reigning premiers are a stable and consistent outfit, Baillie’s services will certainly be missed.

“He steers the side around the paddock well and gives us lots of direction to the play,” O’Sullivan said.

“As a club we have a number of players with the versatility to play a number of positions and are confident that we can fill the void.

With the absent of their captain, the Wanderers will be looking for regular performers Brendan Baillie, who has had a stellar pre-season, Marty O’Brien, forward Carl Bambrick and centre Mick Makai to lift against the Starries.

In the other match of round two, Town and Brothers look to entertain the crowd as these two evenly matched sides knuckle it out for the two points.

Both were impressive last weekend, even though Brothers fell to Wanderer’s, and showed glimpses of what was in store for the remainder of the year.

Town are looking like a building force with healthy numbers at training and minimal injuries, which allows Darron Munns to experiment with players and tactics.

Christian Laffin and Dave Bartolo were incredible last week scoring seven tries between the two.

Laffin’s slick passing and confidence during play was too much for the Black Stars defence, while Bartolo’s position on the wing gave him every opportunity to score.

Brother’s welcome more new signings into the line-up with coach Barry Riddiford excited about the injection of talent.

With the combination of flair and skill, the Brothers are bound to put up a solid fight against their rivals and clinch their first points for the season.
