Showing the spirit of Isa

5/09/2008 1:34:00 PM
ORGANISERS of the inaugural Beer Goggles Charity Ball are to be commended for their community spirit.

These women have set out to create a positive event for Mount Isa that will not only cast a great light on the city, but also raise money for a great cause – the maternity ward at Mount Isa Hospital.

In a true display of local spirit, business owners have gone out of their way to show their support for the event.

From donating prizes and services to offering advice, organisers have been overwhelmed by the generosity and enthusiasm for this inaugural ball.

Interest in the event has spread far and wide and the ball has been a great talking point in Mount Isa itself.

For many people, moving to Mount Isa can be an isolating experience.

Arriving in a town without family and friends can be quite daunting, but there is always reassurance in the fact many others are in the same boat.

The conundrum is how to meet these people.

Well, what better way to do so than at a ball.

To the sceptics, it is time to set the record straight.

This event is not political.

It is not about point scoring and it is certainly not about making fun of Mount Isa residents.

The Beer Goggles theme is simply a quirky catch-phrase to add a conversation starter and bit of humour to the night.

Our city has suffered a fair whack in the national media of late and it is time to fight back.

This event is about putting Mount Isa in the headlines for all the right reasons.

It is about showing how our community can rally for a good cause while having some great fun at the same time.

While the event is not designed to cater for all Mount Isa residents, this is no reason for us to deny it our support.

If anything, it is a challenge for other residents to come up with similar quirky ideas that provide a platform for bringing the community together.

So to the singles of Mount Isa, as tickets to the Beer Goggles Ball go on sale this morning, get out there and help give this event the warm reception it deserves.
